Love Notes

Tom attends a lot of church meetings.  Some of them I get to go to, but I'm not gone nearly as much as Tom is.  Last Sunday evening, we had a parent informational meeting about our upcoming stake trek.  Tom and I were very involved with that, setting up displays, helping with musical numbers, playing the organ, etc.  That took us away from our kids for about 3 hours Sunday night.  Then, on Tuesday night, we had a 2 1/2 hour meeting at the Chipman's Home (so fun to work with them!) discussing our plans for music on the trek and at the kick-off fireside.  Here is my "to-do" list from that meeting alone:

Planning the trek is "fun to do",  fun TO DO, TO DO, TO DO!

Then, last night my sweet husband came home from a very busy day at work.  He laid on the bed for about 30 minutes completely exhausted and with a headache, gulped down some soup, and was out the door headed to a bishopric training meeting.  He wasn't home for more than 45 minutes.  I could tell he was a little frustrated.  Tom NEVER complains about church meetings and is always so willing to serve.  However, last night, I could tell that he REALLY didn't want to leave our kids.  It was hard on him.  He left with a smile, but I know him better . . .

So, I rallied the troops!  Tom said the meeting should only be a little over an hour so I explained to the kids what we needed to do and off we went.  I headed to Village Inn to get Tom's favorite pie (triple berry!) and the kids made love notes to hang ALL over the house!

Well, one hour passed . . . two hours passed . . . and finally, at 9:30 the kids were getting really tired.  So, we ate some of the pie without him and it wasn't much fun.  We wanted him to be around. So, we knelt down and said a prayer hoping that our dad would be ok and know how much we love him and how grateful we are for his service to the Lord.
Well, finally, around 10:30 Tom finally came home.  He had to run by the office on the way home but he said the meeting lasted 3 hours.  He said the best part was being able to hang out with Jared and Stephen (Bishop and 2nd counselor).  He sure loves those guys!

As Tom came in and told me about his night, I walked him around the house (with pie a la mode in hand!) and he read all of the love notes to him.  He couldn't believe it------------
This was the love note that Tom left for all of us this morning, as he left the house at 6:35 a.m. after a quick morning prayer with us.  Love notes really do the trick sometimes!

I am so very impressed by your family's thoughtfulness. Both you and Tom are amazing spiritual leaders for that family.
