My Two Little Missionaries

With the building of the Gilbert Temple so close to our home, our family has become a more missionary-minded home.  We are talking about the church more because people are asking us about the new temple.  In fact, at Spencer's parent/teacher conference last fall, his teacher confessed to me that they were looking for a church that would fit their family!  I told Spencer that this was the perfect opportunity to be a missionary---to be a great example all year long of how a latter-day saint boy can be!  He spoke out in class about the temple, about missions, and about Family Night.  On many occasions, his teacher would pull me aside and tell me how he could pick out the LDS kids because they would always talk about their families and the things they do together at night and on the weekends at church.
So, this year for our teacher's gift, we decided to give both teachers a Book of Mormon.  (we also gave them a dinner gift card and movie tickets because the kids didn't want the Book of Mormon to be their only gift :) I was really proud of them as they wrote their testimonies and were brave enough to give it to them on their last day of school.

Spencer was a little hesitant at what some of his friends might think, and I don't blame him.  As an adult, I have those same fears.  However, when his teacher opened the book and saw Spencer had written in the front cover, he smiled and said, "Thank you Spencer. This is really great."  Then, his friend, who is also a member of the church saw the Book of Mormon on their teacher's desk.  He asked Spencer if he was the one who gave that to him.  When he told his friend that he was, his friend said, "Spencer that is SO cool!"  That really made him feel good inside.

I love these two little missionaries.  The Lord has saved these precious children for these latter-days and only He knows what great things are in store for them to do.  I am so grateful for their example to me.
Someday these two will leave my home and who knows where their little feet will take them?  I hope and pray they will always have the courage to share the gospel wherever they go and will spread love and kindness to those they meet.

Things that make me crazy and happy!

Hailey earning her own money to buy this dragon at Barnes and Noble.  Makes me HAPPY!

Going on a field trip with my first-grader.  Makes me HAPPY!

Living in such an amazing ward where the primary and youth program is so big they can make a circle almost around the entire gym.  They sang "Army of Helaman" at our Youth Service Auction.  Makes me HAPPY!

Buying a new pet for Hailey that is extremely LOW maintenance (she named him "Sky")  Makes me HAPPY!
Trying to send a long text using my voice activated system on my phone, then getting told-off TWICE by Siri to send shorter messages.  Makes me CRAZY!!

Can you believe my phone is so sassy to me???

Drawings made to Grandpa from Hailey.  Makes me HAPPY!

Watching my son help around the house on a Saturday morning.  Makes me very HAPPY!!

But getting a text like this one, in the middle of my day, makes me CRAZY HAPPY!!!!!

I am a lucky girl!

Fun Memories of May

Spencer had his orchestra concert the other night and he played so well.  He plays the cello and we are so excited he wants to play again next year.

 Another gorgeous Arizona sunset!
A few Saturdays ago, Tom and I catered a Hawaiian Luau for a High Priests Group Party (not at the church, just a group of friends getting together to honor one of their friends who has terminal cancer).  It was out in Queen Creek at a beautiful home.
Tom helped me set up then all "heck" broke loose!  A massive dust storm hit and everything went flying.  Then, the power went out and so did their hawaiian music and lights.  It seemed, for a while, like it was going to be a disaster.  I felt so bad for the lady who arranged for us to come.  Nobody was able to get desserts for a while since our shave ice depends upon electricity to work.  But, lo and behold, some ingenious men hooked up our machine to a generator and . . . voila!   We had power again!  The dust storm passed and we were able to serve everyone a delicious shave ice.  (the sweet man who had cancer came back for seconds and he asked for his to be "extra juicy!"  He was so cute!)

Our ward has a service auction every spring to earn money for girl's camp and scout camp.  This year, our teenagers auctioned off a Swim/Shave Ice Party for 15 kids.  They earned $150 towards their camp fees by hosting this party and it was a huge hit with the kids!

With Hailey and Spencer there were actually 17 kids there!

We told the kids it was "All you can Eat Shave Ice" and I think they each had at least 3 of them!
I have a feeling this is going to become a yearly event in our ward!

What happens in Vegas . . .

It has been YEARS since we had a GIRLS TRIP so this year we decided to bite the bullet and just DO IT!
I have the most amazing mother and equally amazing sisters who I LOVE to spend time with.  None of us were having babies (Mary Kay is pregnant) but none of us were nursing and couldn't leave home so we decided that the first weekend in May would be our Girls Weekend!
I love my sweet mama!!
We decided on Las Vegas because it was a pretty central location for us all and fairly inexpensive with the airfare from Allegiant Airlines.  :)

Suzanne surprised us with matching pink, fuzzy slippers and chocolates, then Melanie brought more chocolates from Idaho--which only added to our giddiness and we talked for hours before we finally fell asleep!  My mom got a suite for us that slept 6 people so we could all be in the same room.
L to R - Suzanne, Melanie, MaryKay, and Tamara (me)
The first morning we headed over to the Venetian to have breakfast at Bouchon.  I had the apple custard french toast and it was divine!
All fueled up-----we hit the shopping!!!
Poor MaryKay ---we ran her everywhere and by late afternoon, she was exhausted!!  (doesn't she look like Snow White sleeping there?  She is so beautiful!)

For dinner we ate at an amazing Italian Restaurant near the Mall.
I had to give her bum a little squeeze to remind her of the crazy event of the night!!
After dinner, we walked out of the restaurant only to have some random guy come over and grab my sister Suzanne's behind!  She thought it was my sister, Melanie, so she said, "Oh, well thank you!"  Then, when she saw it was a strange guy, her face turned bright red and we all seriously cracked up!!!

Ahh - The Bellagio
It's just incredibly beautiful!
The next day we headed over to Mandalay Bay to swim and have a brunch/lunch.  It was super hot outside so the pool felt great!!
Dressed up that night to go to the awesome buffet at the Wynn Hotel and then see the show called "La Reve!"

These are the most amazing floral decorations I have ever seen.  Can you imagine them at a wedding reception? They were all real flowers.  This was in the lobby of the Wynn Hotel.

Yes - this is the incredible dessert bar that we went absolutely NUTS over!!

I love my mother so much.  She wanted this weekend to be so special and she worked so hard to plan it all for us.  She is the best! I also love her because out of all the crab legs, shrimp, and other gourmet fare that was available, my mom opted for roast beef, mashed potatoes, and corn!  She says she still is an "Idaho Girl" at heart!!  I love it!

This is actually a cake decorated to look like Marie Antionette.  It was breathtaking.

The answer is, "Yes - I ate ALL of these desserts!"

I am a performer and have been all of my life.  I have been on the stage in multiple situations and have witnessed many musical shows and plays in my lifetime.  NEVER before have I seen ANYTHING like this show.  My mouth was open the entire time!!!  The entire stage turned into water and people dropped down from 9 STORIES high into that middle area.  They were the most highly trained acrobats/dancers/gymnasts who performed the most dangerous feats OVER WATER I have ever seen.  It was by far the most jaw-dropping show I have ever witnessed.  I can't wait to take Tom to see this.  As a former stage manager, he will go nuts watching what it takes to put on a show like this!

Well, for 4 girls and their mother left alone in Las Vegas, we were really, really good!  ha ha---The only crimes committed were we LAUGHED way too hard, ate WAY too much, and LOVED each other more for being together.

 . . . I miss them already . . .
