The Nose Knows!!!

On Day 4 of Fall Break, Kohler did something REALLY fun!  He went in for nose surgery!  ha ha

 It really wasn't that much fun . . .

The doctor had to remove some of the nasal turbinates on the left side of his nose.  The tissue was abnormally large and consequently blocked a lot of drainage from his sinuses.  This is why he was getting frequent sinus infections each year.  Poor guy!

 He didn't mind the getting up early, or the fashionable hospital gown and hat, or the nice nurses :)

 In fact, after the surgery, the recovery on the NOSE part was a piece of cake.  (He will probably kill me for putting this picture in - this was when he was still asleep from the surgery).

The most difficult part of the recovery was his throat.  (here he is awake again and back to his silly Kohler self!)  There was some damage done to his uvula when he was intubated and it caused him SO much pain.  He said it was like the worst sore throat he had ever had.  (he was intubated because the doctor took a look at his adenoids for possible removal - but didn't end up taking them out).  Anyway, his uvula was stretched out long and turned black.  It rested on his tongue and kept gagging him.  It even had sores all over it.  I felt so bad for him.  Jamba Juice became our best friend and eventually I found a good canker sore medicine that he caked all over his throat so he could eat.  Finally, after a few days, the pain wore off and he was ok.  He never complained about his nose though.  I guess that Nose Knows not to give him any trouble when he was already struggling with the throat stuff!  ha ha
