Kelsey is getting married!

On New Year's Eve 2017, Aaron Ingersoll asked Tom and I if he could speak to us privately.  We knew this was coming . . . in fact, he wanted to talk to us during Kohler and Suzy's wedding weekend!  That was just way too soon for this mom's heart.  So, we asked Kelsey to wait on it a little.  It was a blessing because it gave them more time to date and more time to settle in on the idea of marriage.  Kelsey came home for Christmas without Aaron and it was a nice thing for her to be with her siblings---but she missed him a lot :)  After Christmas, we drove to Utah with our family and spent some time up there.  We were super disappointed that there was hardly any snow!  We had big plans to go snow-shoeing and play in the snow.  But the mountains were just brown and sad.  So, we ended up doing pretty much what we would have done here in Arizona----bowling and movies.  It was still super fun to be together!

Sunday was New Year's Eve and after church we waited anxiously for Aaron to come and talk to us.  Kelsey "conveniently" had to run down to Provo to her apartment for something so she was gone.  Aaron sat down next to me on the couch and Tom took the side chair.  We talked to him for over an hour.  It was a wonderful talk and Aaron really opened up his heart and told us how much he loved Kelsey.  He even got teary-eyed and so did I.  Tom asked him some direct questions about his plans for work and the future and it was a really great time for us to get to know him even more.  We absolutely are the luckiest people in the world . . . to get a daughter-in-law and son-in-law that we just adore!

The month of January was a time for Aaron to concoct a plan for the perfect proposal!  He called Kohler and Suzy and told them he wanted to take Kelsey to California to propose to her on the beach.  When I heard that was the plan, I texted Aaron and told him to give my sister, Suzanne a call.  I remembered that Tony asked Suzanne to marry him at the beach so I'm sure she had a bunch of amazing ideas!  Oh my gosh . . . I had NO idea how amazing she really would be!  She and her two girls, Olivia and Noel, gathered things for the perfect setting.  They drove to the Montage Beach ahead of Kohler, Suzy, Kelsey and Aaron.  She and her girls put rose petals around a beach blanket, with a lantern all lit up, a bucket of ice with sparkling cider, and two big pillows to lay back on.  Her girls said, "Mom, it's like we are on the set of "The Bachelor" show!"  As a mom who was far away in Merced, helping my mom after her surgery and my dad who was suffering from skin cancer on his shoulder, it meant EVERYTHING to me that she was so willing to help make this a memorable experience.  I truly can't thank her enough.  The pictures were amazing and Kelsey literally was beaming from ear to ear.  She didn't think she was getting proposed to because Aaron was sneaky and told her that the ring wasn't ready yet.  She was a little sad because she was hoping to get engaged on the beach, and especially on her BIRTHDAY just like Kohler did.  What a surprise when Aaron pulled out the ring!  It's just beautiful and it sparkles just like her eyes when she looks at Aaron!

Well, last weekend (Feb. 8-9) Tom and I flew up to Utah so Kelsey could try on wedding dresses.  We took the TRAX in to SLC and had a nice breakfast at the Nauvoo Cafe in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  Then Kelsey met us at City Creek Mall.  We went to our first appointment at Alta Moda.  The first thing the saleslady asked Kelsey was, "Tell me in three words what you want to feel on your wedding day."  Kelsey responded with the most insightful and poignant words:  CONFIDENT, COMFORTABLE, AND MODEST.  I was really proud of her because that describes her perfectly.

They began to pull a lot of dresses that needed many alterations if they were going to be temple standard.  It was difficult to imagine what they would look like but Tom was really getting into the construction of the dresses!  He was asking a ton of questions about the fabric, how the neckline would be sewn, etc.  I just sat back and watched with a smile, basking in the love that Tom has for his little girl.  Then Kelsey tried on a very unique, bohemian style dress complete with bell sleeves, sparkly white sequins, and a tassle tie in front.  It looked amazing on her!  It would be custom made for her in Israel but was way expensive.  We didn't stress about the money because we wanted Kelsey to enjoy the moment.  Actually, we all got teary-eyed because the dress was so "her."  However, we did worry a little that it was so trendy and not timeless---the style would change and be dated . . . but it was a great start to a marathon wedding dress shopping day.

Afterwards, we were starving!  So we headed to Sawadee for some Thai Food.  Then we hit Gateway Bridal which was less than promising and had a very odd saleslady with red lipstick who looked like Miranda Sings and had an annoying voice, ha ha!  So, we booked it out of there and headed to Holladay to the cutest boutique called, "The Perfect Dress."  We were early to our appointment but the manager, Jaclyn, was there and she decided to take us early.  We were so lucky because she was super knowledgeable and really listened to Kelsey and what she wanted.  She tried on a few dresses and they were beautiful but still not hitting her in the heart.  Then, Jaclyn said,  "I'm going to pull something that is a little out of the box because I think you are a bride who doesn't want to look like everyone else."  She pulled a GORGEOUS gown that was form-fitting and hand-beaded with pearl colored beads that sparkled when Kelsey moved.  The sleeves were the perfect length and had a slight scallop trim which was SO pretty!  It was classy.  It was timeless.  She looked absolutely stunning!!!  In fact, she said, "Oh mom---Aaron is going to love this!"  She felt confident, comfortable, and modest in that dress and another bonus . . . it was half the price of the bohemian dress at the first shop.  Yeah!  As Kelsey was confirming her choice, Jaclyn placed a long cathedral veil on her head and that just sealed the deal.  She walked around and all of the other mothers in the shop just stared at her.  Two of the mothers came up to me separately and said, "THAT dress is the one!  She looks so beautiful!"  I couldn't believe how blessed we were.  Not only was she the most beautiful girl in the shop on the outside, I knew she was also the most beautiful girl on the inside and getting married to a worthy returned-missionary from Highland, Utah?  Wow -  it doesn't get any better than that!
